a FEW PRESENTATIONS AND POSTERS
Because enough researchers have asked me about how to design presentations and posters, I’ve added this page with some pointers.
This page is me proselytizing that less text is more text, bullet points are ick, and because it works in the paper doesn’t mean it works for a presentation.
I am not a design expert, nor do I have specific design hacks to share. I play with fonts and colors until I am happy. My approach will not work for everyone, and my own design sensibilities change with time too. But, I do have some resources to share. You can find some free attractive fonts here. Images are usually from here. Pick a fun color from this website or this one. Or you could find a background image on this website.
Presentations
Lonely Algorithms
This PowerPoint was for ICA on the lonely algorithm problem. This presentation was designed to cover multiple studies to an audience of quantitative communication scholars.
PARENTING TIKTOK
This PowerPoint Presentation is from NCA 2023. The talk is about parental awareness and attitudes about algorithms on TikTok. I designed this presentation to focus on the research questions of this exploratory project.
Media Multiplexity
This PowerPoint was one of my first presentations at an academic conference. The poster was designed for an ICA audience in the Communication & Technology Division.
AlGORIThmic Intimacy
This PowerPoint presentation explores people’s perceptions of algorithms in their intimate relationships, presented at IARR in 2024. It was designed with the goal of getting relationship scientists to understand algorithms.
CyBERBULLYING
This PowerPoint presentation is from the “job market” presentation on a series of cyberbullying experiments from 2019. This presentation was designed to introduce my research program and dive deep into a few projects.
ALWAYS AVAILABLE
This PowerPoint Presentation was designed for ICA 2020. This talk was prerecorded, asynchronous research talk.
This poster is from the Communication Science Futures inaugural conference. This poster was designed to get other communication scientists interested in the topic of interpersonal algorithms.
This poster is from the IARR conference in 2024. This poster is designed to spark conversations with others about the role relationships in notions of being always online.
This poster was for the ICA dissertation pre-conference workshop. This poster was designed to help introduce my project to the group and get feedback on my initial dissertation ideas (it changed a lot).
